Rain, 35 degrees, and windy is about as bad as it gets... Still, I decided to try and put together the right mix of clothing for a ride today.. I managed 40 miles in 2:42 and was comfortable for the first 2 hours... That last 42 min, not so much...
Thanks for posting that, very interesting to see what others wear.
And all I did today was the daily commute. 30 minutes each way with the pouring rain and cross winds blowing at 15-25 slightly in my face. 39 degrees there... 35 on the way home. Actually turned to a heavy snow during the middle of the day, but it didn't stick and didn't last.
I opted for a single short sleeve bike shirt with a heavy duty gortex shell. No liner, but it's oversize and the outer shell for my -20 degree gear. More than warm enough.
Snowboarding gloves shell.. again, no liner, though I did cary them in my pocket just in case.
And I just wore a pair of Merrell boots since it's only 5 miles. This instead of my bike shoes and waterproof covers. Just simpler. Suprisingly worked quite well on my fixie with Crank Bros. Mallet pedals.
Oh, and some snowboarding pants... which I just wanted to try out for rain riding... water resistant is definitely not waterproof. Back to the non-breathable waterproof pants.
Today really was a worst case scenario for wet weather. As cold and wet as it can get without freezing or snowing... which it started doing about mid-day.
So... the pants left my legs soaked, the boots badly need re-waterproofing and the gloves aern't waterproof on the back because they don't need to be for snowboarding and skiing. But, I picked up some sealer for the boots and some spray waterproofer for the back of the gloves today. Will be great tomorrow.
This is the first chance in a long time I've had to test this gear and three out of four key items failed, and yet because the gortex jacket worked so well I really enjoyed myself.
Tomorrow I will enjoy myself more.
Tomorrow is going to be one heck of a cyclo-cross race here in Monroe. Part of the Tailwinds points series I believe. Not my thing, just showing local support.
Thanks for the post.
BTW, you certainly use a lot more gear then me... alot more layers. But then I was just commuting.
And the day before in about 50 degrees and rain I did 300 miles at 75+ MPH for about 6 hours. Of course the full rain suit and winter jacket help... :D

yeah, I had to put some armwarmers on today. Then I got hot and took them off! Good to see the miles are still rolling strong for ya!
