Ruby....

I've still never been to Ruby Campground... It's a beautiful morning as I type this, camelbak is filled, bike and everything I need to race is loaded in the car, etc.... But I just pulled the plug. The weather radar makes me think rain will arrive just as I get there to do my pre-ride lap and from what everyone says, a pre-ride lap at Ruby would be kinda important to my well being... Of course, it will probably end up a glorious day... Oh well... At least my perfect record of never riding the trails there is still intact...

I made my decision not to go last friday when I heard the river crossings were already knee deep and when I saw the forecast for hot/humid/rainy weather...

The bike should be pretty thankful if anything..

Ruby was definitely muddy to start with. But I've had so much practice racing in the mud this year that it didn't seem like a big deal. I had a good time and using a 1x9 lessened the chance of a mechanincal.

Thanks for the encouragement guys... I guess that's the best reason to make the trip is to see my mtb buds...

I got a short report from Christian last night... He supported my decision to stay home.. He said he slipped and fell twice and said his bike is a mess now... Still I know he had fun...

Ultimately the fact that I've never ridden the trail and reports that the trail is difficult and technical even when dry scared me off...

Next year for sure... Hmmm... I think I said that a year ago...

Hey Robert, you probably made the right choice. If you had ridden there before, I would say go for it, but not having a preride in and dealing with the inch of slippery mudd, good choice. NEVER juidge the race by what the river crossing is until that Thurs. of race week, because we have some tricks that I cant publish, that we do to the river crossings on the race week if needed.

Oh well, theres always next year! Maybe I'll see you out there for a ride yet this year. Mike.............
