This is pretty typical for me. I ride more in the dead of winter than I do in the summer. I just noticed my miles had spiked up to 1475 over the last 31 days. It's pretty easy to explain. During the race season I force myself to take some easy days but with racing about 3 months away I figure I can ride as much as I want right now.

That' a lot of miles. It looks like the graph shows daily rides but what is the scale on the left side?

I believe each data point represents total mileage for the last 31 days, so the numbers on the left are the total miles/31days. Each days miles are added to the previous 30 days to come up with a new 31day total. If the newest day was more mileage than the oldest day, total goes up and vice versa. Took me a couple looks to figure it out too.
What is the values, Robert, in tracking your miles this way rather than just daily mileage for the year?

Yes. It's a "running total" of my previous 31 days...
Ummm.... I don't know if there's any value in tracking any of this stuff, but I do. Some people do cross-word puzzles at lunch. I do miles charts...
Actually I guess I like looking at the running totals because it captures stuff just like the 1475... My December was 1300 and January could end up 1300 as well.
My biggest calendar year was 2003, 16161 miles but on May 16th 2004 I posted a personal high 365 day total of 16888, then I crashed and broke my hand.
Anyway... That's a glimpse into the mind of Herriman.
